Charlie's Links

My personal favorites - friends, web sites that catch my interest, whatever.

Kathleen Galligan - Artist in pastels and oils. Fabulous work and a great person.

Sharon McGauley - Another super-talented artist and great person. Also a talented SCUBA diver - Sharon has worked for me several times as a science diver, and was co-discoverer of the fluorescing mantis shrimp.

Embroidered jewelry - Sherry Chakrin is a truly versatile and talented individual. Among other ventures she is running an embroidery business (great to deal with if you want relaxed, efficient, personal attention). She is now creating a line of beautiful embroidered jewelry that is well worth checking out.

Artist's Air - Kathleen Galligan and her husband Warren Riess (marine historian/archaeologist extraordinaire), both good friends of mine, collaborated to invent a device that protects artists from the paint solvents and pastel dust they work with. This works!

Angel Gabriel - not the one with the trumpet. The English ship that wrecked near Pemaquid, Maine, in 1635, and the subject of Warren Riess' master's thesis in marine archaeology. I spent a bunch of summers working with Warren trying to find this wreck. Warren has written a well-worth-reading book on the ship and the search. Bonus feature is pictures of your humble NightSea founder as a younger man.

Bahamas Underground - Brian Kakuk is a world-class cave diver, a pioneer of Bahamas cave diving, an excellent instructor, and all-around great guy. Not to mention Dive Safety Officer for Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3! He has opened a technical/cave diving training and guiding center in Marsh Harbor, Abaco, Bahamas. If you enjoy this kind of diving or want to learn, I highly recommend Brian.
