Fluorescent scale bars   CONTACT

Fluorescent scale bars - $30 - $40

Researchers often need scale references in photographs. This can be a problem with fluorescence photography because conventional scales are not fluorescent, so they do not show up in the fluorescence image. You can't use just any fluorescent substance to make a scale - most materials that are made to be fluorescent are much brighter than the natural subjects encountered in the field, with the result that they overexpose in the image. As part of a NOAA-funded project to develop tools for coral recruitment researchers we have developed measurement scales with an appropriate level of fluorescence for use with fluorescent corals or other natural subjects, including the weak red fluorescence of chlorophyll. NightSea now offers centimeter scales (with additional millimeter markings) for fluorescence images in three configurations:

  • Model FRS-10, a 10 cm scale with a hole for attachment of a line so you can attach it to your BC or other equipment. On the back of the scale is a stainless steel weight so that it can be laid on underwater surfaces without floating away, and a strip of material that resists sliding on slopes. (Scale also available without the weight and non-skid.)

  • Model FRS-5, a 5 cm scale. For this scale the stainless steel weight will be attached to the front of the scale, under the scale bars. This puts the scale itself closer to the substrate than the FRS-10, which can be useful for extreme close-up work.

  • Model FRS-5M, a 5 cm scale intended for surface use either on the lab bench or under a stereomicroscope.

Price:
