SFA light heads, BNC (top) and V1

In late June 2015 we changed to a new connector between the fluorescence excitation light heads and the gooseneck of our modular Model SFA Stereo Microscope Fluorescence Adapter system. The new style connector is called a BNC, and we are calling the original connector ‘Version 1‘ or ‘V1‘. There are two differences – the connector on the end of the gooseneck and the mating connector on the back of the light head. The figures below illustrate these.

It is easy to tell them apart:

  • The BNC connector on the gooseneck is silver, while the Version 1 connector is black.
  • The BNC light heads have the letters BNC printed on the side.

All new systems ship with the BNC connector. The connectors are not interchangeable, so if you need to order an additional light head or light+filter set for an existing V1 SFA system be sure to specify which type you have so that you will receive the appropriate light heads.
